58+ custom sci-fi illustrations bringing impossible worlds to life - from deep-fried banana planets to telepathic cities
WeirdspaceRPG is a sci-fi tabletop roleplaying game created from scratch by Paul Green (Paul Cat), featuring one of the most imaginative settings in modern tabletop gaming. The game's premise is wonderfully absurd yet deeply creative: Earth became barren and sent terraforming robots to Saturn's rings to transform asteroids into habitable mini-planets. However, the robots malfunctioned spectacularly, creating some of the most bizarre and fascinating worlds in any RPG.
The result? A universe where players can explore a giant non-euclidean racetrack planet, a water-filled cube planet dotted with oil-rig shantytowns, an upside-down egg planet with a cracked bottom housing an entire city, and dozens of other impossible worlds that defy conventional sci-fi aesthetics.
Since 2021, I've served as the primary illustrator for the WeirdspaceRPG sourcebook, creating 58+ custom illustrations that bring Paul's wild imagination to visual life. My work spans multiple categories:
This project has spanned over 5 years of continuous collaboration, making it one of the longest and most rewarding client relationships I've had. The main challenge? Keeping inspiration fresh across 58+ unique illustrations, each depicting worlds that have never been visualized before.
The unique aspect of this long-term partnership is that you can literally see my artistic evolution throughout the sourcebook. Maps created in 2021 showcase my early style, while recent 2024-2025 work demonstrates how much my craft has developed—all while maintaining visual consistency for the project.
The WeirdspaceRPG sourcebook is scheduled for completion in early 2026, with a Kickstarter campaign planned. If the campaign achieves appropriate backing, the collaboration will continue with additional supplements and expansions. This project represents not just client work, but a creative partnership where bizarre ideas become stunning visual reality.

How 5 years of collaboration brought impossible worlds to life
Paul shares his wild planet concept—often just a few sentences describing an impossible world that needs visualizing.
Creating rough layouts to establish composition, scale, and how to best represent these bizarre astronomical objects.
Building out the full illustration with careful attention to sci-fi aesthetics while maintaining the whimsical, impossible nature.
Adding textures, lighting, and small details that bring the world to life—from tiny buildings to environmental storytelling.
Working closely with Paul to ensure each illustration matches his vision while adding my own creative interpretation.
Providing high-resolution files optimized for print in the sourcebook, maintaining quality across all 58+ illustrations.
T.A. Maps has been a long term partner on the Weirdspace books, and has elevated my half baked concepts into something that not only looks great on the page, but has inspired further writing! Working within the brief provided and including extra hidden details in both classic 2D and isometric style maps, I look forward to collaborating more on future projects!
